Japanese Coast Guard Museum-Yokohama

27 July, 2025: YCAPS tour led by JCG officers

On July 27th, YCAPS hosted a focused tour of the Japan Coast Guard Museum in Yokohama led by two active-duty Japanese Coast Guard officers, Kirara and Take. About 10 participants joined, creating a unique opportunity to hear firsthand accounts from the officers about their personal experiences, daily responsibilities, and perspectives on serving in the Japan Coast Guard.

Participants explored historical exhibits—including the salvaged North Korean spy vessel and recovered artifacts—while reflecting on Japan’s response to gray zone challenges in regional waters.

After the museum tour, the group took a scenic 30-minute walk through Yokohama’s port district to Antenna America Kanni, where they enjoyed a casual lunch of wings, pulled pork sandwiches, and drinks. Over lunch, the conversation continued with an informal but engaging discussion on maritime deterrence, coast guard diplomacy, and Japan’s broader security posture in the Indo-Pacific.

The event exemplified YCAPS’ commitment to community learning by combining experiential education with open dialogue in a relaxed setting—fostering connection among students, professionals, and maritime security experts.
