YCAPS hosted a Community Conversations seminar in Sasebo, on July 24th, featuring Dr. Tom Le, Associate Professor of Politics at Pomona College and Research Associate at the PRIME Institute of Meiji Gakuin University. Dr. Le explored how Japan’s demographic trends are shaping its national security and impacting the U.S.-Japan alliance.

He discussed the root causes of Japan’s population crisis and the policy challenges it presents. Drawing from his book Japan’s Aging Peace and his broader scholarship, Dr. Le offered compelling insights into the intersection of demography and defense. The talk drew on his extensive academic background and was well received by attendees.
