On July 23rd, the Yokosuka Council on Asia-Pacific Studies (YCAPS) was pleased to host another Community Conversations seminar in Fussa featuring keynote speaker Air Commodore Yasir Shafiq Malik, Defense Attaché Embassy of Pakistan. Yasir spoke about "Prelude to a Crisis: Kashmir, April 2025", providing an in-depth look at the events leading up to the violence in Pahalgam as well as the following clashes between India and Pakistan from his perspective. In this event, the attendees were able to actively participate and ask questions that were relevant to the history of tension in the region and how the events could potentially develop into a bigger conflict.

This setting brought together individuals interested in regional security and conflict studies to discuss the most relevant issues in Pakistan and India relations taken from a security perspective. Commodore Yasir Shafiq Malik revisited the incidents from and after the April 22nd attack, which included past challenges of counterterrorism in Pakistan, the foreign affairs standing of each nation, as well as the different military capabilities in terms of intelligence and electronic warfare. Possibilities that have been displayed during these conflicts – as he eloquently analyzed – could dictate the direction taken in future encounters between India and Pakistan and lessons learned for security practitioners worldwide.

YCAPS would like to extend a thank you to FADTECH for IT support and Mobile Internet service to help bring this and other events to our base-hosting communities around Japan.
