Last week, representatives from YCAPS attended major workshop focused on enhancing regional maritime domain awareness that YCAPS co-organized alongside the Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies (NESA), the National Maritime Foundation (NMF), and the Daniel K Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS).
Titled “Enhancing Information Fusion and Operational Precision Across Seams in the Indo-Pacific”, the event took place across three days (10-12 September) in Bangkok, Thailand. It brought together maritime security practitioners, industry stakeholders, and academics from across the Indo-Pacific and beyond, to discuss questions concerning how to maximise technological tools for greater operational capacity for maritime services throughout the region.

YCAPS’ Director Dr. John Bradford introduced the workshop, presented a table setter, moderated two sessions, and rounded off the event with final remarks. Research fellow Jeffrey Payne similarly contributed in a comprehensive manner, while research fellows Dr. Kei Koga and Dr. Hoo Chiew-Ping spoke on panels about state-led cooperation and defense industrial decision making respectively.

The event featured breakout sessions to inform the final takeaways, where research fellows Dr. Benjamin Blandin and Eric Ang acted as rapporteurs. With its focus on professional development, YCAPS was especially pleased to see its intern Tristan Eng volunteering to deliver a summary of his group’s discussions to the workshop writ large. Senior Research Fellow Dr. Scott Edwards also attended.
