YCAPS is excited to announce the next event in the Community Conversations seminar series in the Iwakuni Community! This event will feature Dr. Akira Inayoshi of Niigata University, who will guide us in a discussion on the History of Governors in Japan.
This seminar aims to give an overview of the history of governors in Japan, especially focusing on their role of connecting the central government and local communities. This function of governors has not changed since the 1870s despite their legal character being drastically changed during the occupation. By paying attention to the political circumstances surrounding governors, we can better understand the aspects of and the historical role of Japanese governors.
This event is free and open to all in Iwakuni and the surrounding communities. refreshments will be provided.

Speaker:
Dr. Akira Inayoshi is a Professor of Political History at Niigata University, Japan. His research centres on local politics and the general development of national land in Japan from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century. His recent book "Minato-machi Junrei" depicts the multifaceted histories in several of Japan's port towns.
