On Monday, October 5, YCAPS’ Subic SQUAD Forum hosted a webinar featuring Dr. Aliya Peleo and Dr. Alvin Camba to discuss Pax Silica and its implications for the Philippines, particularly in the context of developments in New Clark City, Tarlac.

Dr. Peleo, an assistant professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman, offered a Philippine perspective on these developments, highlighting concerns raised by local communities regarding safety measures, environmental protections, and the potential impacts of industrial development and mining operations.

Dr. Camba, Chief Scientist and Director of Research at Lyvi and Nonresident Fellow with the Indo-Pacific Security Initiative at the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, provided an American perspective, discussing global supply chains, mineral extraction, and the broader political and economic dynamics surrounding Pax Silica.

The Yokosuka Council on Asia-Pacific Studies (YCAPS) is proudly working in collaboration with La Trobe Asia, the Philippines–Australia Forum, FACTS Asia, We Protect Our Seas, and the University of the Philippines–Diliman Asian Center to foster the next generation of policy-relevant voices in the region.
