The Maritime GENIE program recently hosted its fourth and fifth webinars, with presentations by Dr. Shih Yi-Che and Admiral (Rtd.) Lee Hsi-Min, respectively. The fifth webinar marked the conclusion of the series.
On August 24, Dr. Shih Yi-Che delivered a presentation on technological advancements and emerging challenges in marine conservation. Dr. Shih serves as Deputy Director-General of Taiwan’s Ocean Conservation Administration (OCA) under the Ocean Affairs Council and is also an Associate Professor at National Cheng Kung University. His presentation explored a range of issues, including marine policy and regulation, marine pollution prevention and debris management, marine monitoring, and other conservation efforts.
On September 22, Admiral (Rtd.) Lee Hsi-Min delivered a presentation on naval operations and asymmetric warfare strategy. Admiral Lee is a distinguished military strategist and former top commander in Taiwan’s armed forces. He played a key role in developing Taiwan’s Overall Defense Concept (ODC), including its focus on asymmetric defense.
Together, the two webinars provided the GENIEs with perspectives on both the technological and strategic dimensions of maritime security and governance, highlighting the importance of innovation, effective policy, and adaptive approaches to addressing evolving maritime challenges.
