Summary by Andrew Marvin*
YCAPS is pleased to welcome Andrew Marvin and Davis Piper as Interns for the summer. Throughout their internships, Andrew and Davis have supported YCAPS’ mission of fostering informed dialogue on Indo-Pacific security and international affairs through research, event coordination, strategic communications, and community engagement.

Working alongside the YCAPS team, they have assisted in planning and executing seminars, workshops, and community events while contributing to the organization’s growing outreach efforts. Their responsibilities include supporting event logistics, producing event reports, expanding YCAPS’ social media presence, and helping strengthen connections with members and partners across Japan and beyond.

Andrew is a Political Science student at the University of California, Santa Cruz, with academic interests in Indo-Pacific security, U.S.-Japan relations, and East Asian politics. As a U.S. Air Force Officer Candidate in the U.S. Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC), he brings a strong interest in security studies, leadership, and public service to his work at YCAPS.

Davis Piper is an undergraduate student at the University of Colorado Boulder pursuing a B.A. in International Affairs with a minor in Business. His academic interests include international relations, public policy, and the political and economic dynamics of the Indo-Pacific region. He previously worked as a legislative intern for Colorado State Representative Chad Clifford, where he supported policy research, tracked legislation, and gained experience in government operations. He has also worked in equity research at BTG Pactual, conducting quantitative and qualitative research on industry trends and company performance.
Together, Andrew and Davis have already begun supporting a variety of YCAPS initiatives, including organizing community visits, assisting with public seminars, developing communications strategies, and enhancing the organization’s digital outreach. Their work reflects YCAPS’ commitment to providing students and young professionals with meaningful opportunities to engage with contemporary policy issues while developing practical skills in research, communications, and event management.

We are delighted to have Andrew and Davis on the YCAPS team this summer and look forward to their contributions in support of our mission to promote dialogue, education, and collaboration on issues shaping the Indo-Pacific.
