On the afternoon of July 12, community members gathered in Chatan, Okinawa, for a YCAPS Community Conversation featuring Dr. Matthew Poggi, a Research Fellow with the Asia Society Policy Institute and the Council on Economic Policies.

Mr. Poggi, a former Department of Treasury Financial Attaché to Japan, led an engaging discussion on Japan’s economy and economic policymaking in the post-bubble era. Audience members were particularly interested in Japan’s monetary policies following the bubble era, stagnant domestic wages, and Japan’s future economic outlook given its aging population. The event welcomed a diverse audience comprised of base personnel, Japanese community members, and various scholars from across Okinawa.
