YCAPS Research Fellow Selected for Motwani Jadeja Fellowship in India

Sam Baron selected as a Motwani Jadeja Fellow at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) in Delhi, India.

YCAPS Research Fellow Sam Baron was recently selected as a Motwani Jadeja Fellow at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) in Delhi, India. The fully-funded fellowship program, which will take place in January 2026, is designed to build a community of American scholars and policy thinkers with a nuanced understanding of India and India–US relations.

During his one-month residency at the Motwani Jadeja Institute of American Studies (MJIAS), Baron will carry out a research project about subnational diplomacy between California and India. His project will explore partnerships between states and cities as engines of economic cooperation in the US-India relationship, providing a roadmap for collaboration in areas such as green infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and port security.

While in residence at JGU, Baron will conduct interviews with Indian officials, state representatives, and business leaders, complemented by fieldwork in Mumbai. At the conclusion of the fellowship, he will deliver a public lecture at JGU and publish op-eds in both American and Indian media outlets.

Baron joins other fellows selected from leading think tanks and universities across the United States, including the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), Rhodium Group, and Johns Hopkins SAIS, to form the inaugural cohort of this prestigious fellowship program.
