On July 22nd, 2025, about 20 community members gathered in Yokosuka for a YCAPS Community Conversation featuring Dr. Hilary J. Holbrow, an Assistant Professor at Indiana University and a specialist in Japanese society, gender, and labor.

Held at the Yokosuka City Industrial Exchange Plaza, the event drew a diverse audience from the local community for an evening of discussion, networking, and reflection on evolving gender roles in Japan. Dr. Holbrow’s presentation challenged common assumptions about Japan’s traditional gender roles. Drawing from historical trends, census data, and employment patterns, she emphasized that gender roles in Japan have never been fixed and continue to evolve.
During the presentation participants enjoyed refreshments, sushi, and wings from Yokolicious.
