    Dr. Robert Hoppens, History Professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and expert on contemporary Japanese history, will lead a lecture and discussion on Japanese history from the end of the second World War to the present day.

    Robert Hoppens received a Ph.D. in Modern Japanese History from the University of Washington and is Associate Professor of History at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where he teaches Japanese, Chinese, Korean and world history. His research focuses on the history of Sino-Japanese relations, Japan-Taiwan relations, Cold War history and issues of national identity in East Asia. He is the author of The China Problem in Postwar Japan: Japanese National Identity and Sino-Japanese Relations, published by Bloomsbury Press as part of the series SOAS Studies in Modern and Contemporary Japan. He is also a member of the fourth cohort of the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation’s US-Japan Network for the Future.
