YCAPS is delighted to announce the next event in the Community Conversations seminar series in the Sasebo community! This event will feature Dr. Tom Le, Associate Professor of the Politics Pomona College and Research Associate at the PRIME Institute of Meiji Gakuin University.
This talk will examine how demographics impact Japanese security and its implications for the US-Japan relationship. It will also explore the causes of the demographic crises and the difficulties solving them.
All are welcome and free food and refreshments will be provided.

Speaker:
Tom Le is an Associate Professor of the Politics Pomona College and Research Associate at the PRIME Institute of Meiji Gakuin University. He received a PhD. and M.A. in political science from the University of California, Irvine and B.A.s in history and political science from the University of California, Davis. His research interests include Japan’s security policy, the Japan-U.S. alliance, war memory and reconciliation, smart cities, antinuclear movements, and demographics and security. He is author of Japan’s Aging Peace: Pacifism and Militarism in the Twenty-First Century (Columbia University Press). His research has been published in academic journals such as The Journal of Asian Studies and Asia Policy as well as in popular media outlets such as Foreign Affairs, The Washington Post and The Diplomat.
