Getting to Know Japan Webinar (via Zoom) -- 1900 (JST) 6 October 2022
Dr. Bleddyn Bowen, an expert on space warfare and the international relations of outer space, will provide an introductory overview of the history, drivers, and trajectory of Japan’s activities in outer space. Dr. Bowen will also assess Japan’s current space capabilities, placing them in an international context by comparing them to the United States and other countries before we transition to Q&A.

Dr. Bleddyn Bowen is an Associate Professor of International Relations at the University of Leicester. He is an expert on space warfare, international relations in outer space, and strategic theory. Dr. Bowen is the author of War in Space: Strategy, Spacepower, Geopolitics, published in 2020 by Edinburgh University Press, and Original Sin: Power, Technology, and War in Outer Space forthcoming with Hurst in October 2022. He has published several peer-reviewed academic articles and book chapters. He has briefed UK and international audiences on matters of space policy and security, including the No. 10 Downing Street Policy Unit, NATO, the European Space Agency, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the Pentagon, the UK Ministry of Defence, Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, and the UK Parliament to name a few.
