Dr. Anand Rao, Professor of Political Science at SUNY Geneseo, will introduce the intricate relationship between Korea and Japan. Before we go into an open discussion of contemporary issues and disputes, Dr. Rao will provide the background by explaining some of the most relevant periods in the relationship’s history.

Anand Rao is an assistant professor of political science and international relations at the State University of New York at Geneseo. He completed his PhD in foreign affairs at the University of Virginia in 2015 and joined the faculty at Geneseo in that same year. Dr. Rao lived in Japan for a total of nearly 10 years and has also visited the Republic of Korea on more than a half-dozen different occasions. He is interested in all aspects of East Asian international relations. His work has been published in the Japan Studies Association Journal and Asian Politics and Policy.
