    Professor Michael Cucek (Temple University Japan) will deliver the second part of a two part session providing an overview of Japanese history until 1868 and the start of the Meiji Restoration. Part I- Japanese History: Prehistory to 1185 - The Age of the Aristocrat will be held on Thursday, April 14th.

    Michael Cucek is Assistant Professor of Asian Studies at Temple University, Japan Campus (1/2020 - Present). He is also a fellow at the Institute of Contemporary Japanese Studies (2014 - Present). He is an independent political consultant and an advisor to consultancy Langley Esquire. Prior positions include Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Temple University, Japan Campus (9/2016-12/2019), Adjunct Professor of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Waseda University (10/2016-2/2020), Adjunct Professor of the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Sophia University (4/2015 - 8/2015), Senior Research Analyst at Okamoto Associates, a strategic and business consulting firm to Japanese multinationals and government affiliated agencies (1/1995 - 6/2010) and Research Associate at the Asahi National Broadcast Company (10/1992 - 9/1994). At Okamoto Associates, Professor Cucek authored and presented strategic advice to Japanese multinationals, quasi-governmental organizations, and government agencies in a cross-cultural and multilingual environment, and presentations and reports on business transformation, international political risk, change management, BRICS and technology transfer, both alone and as a member of cross-national teams of 3-4 persons. Professor Cucek's specializations include Japan's foreign relations with its East Asian neighbors, the history of East Asia, Japanese politics, U.S. Asia policy, international trade and development issues.
