YCAPS is excited to announce our next event in Tokyo. This event will feature a panel of distinguished speakers who will lead us in a talk on the future of Japan-Hollywood collaboration.
Join us as journalist Waka Ikeda explores the current Japonism trend in Hollywood, Eriko Miyagawa, producer of "Shogun," shares insights from her international work such as "Silence" and "Kill Bill", and Mayu Nakamura, writer-director of feature films and documentaries, discusses her experiences working in both the US and Japan. With Japan-Korea collaborations also surging, our speakers will discuss what these partnerships mean for global entertainment. Moderated by Maya Matsuoka of Japan Expert Insights, this conversation examines the evolving landscape of cross-cultural storytelling

Speakers:
Eriko Miyagawa is an Emmy and Golden Globe Award winning producer known for her work on the recent "Shogun" adaptation. Her extensive production credits include major films such as "Silence" and "Kill Bill." She has established herself as a significant talent in bringing Japanese stories and cultural elements to international productions.
Waka Ikeda is a Tokyo-based freelance journalist who has interviewed many award-winning filmmakers including Eddie Redmayne, Hugh Jackman, Guillermo del Toro, Ang Lee, Claude Lelouch, Hirokazu Kore-eda, and many more. She also writes columns on Japanese culture, society and films for Nikkei Asia, The Japan Times, VOGUE, ELLE and many others.
Mayu Nakamura is a writer/director who debuted with a fiction feature, “The Summer of Stickleback” (Busan 2006). Her documentaries include “Alone Again in Fukushima 2020”(Yamagata 2020). Her fiction features include “Intimate Stranger” (2021 Tokyo IFF), and “She is me, I am her” (2023 Udine).

Maya Matsuoka is the owner and principal consultant of Japan Expert Insights, a company that helps companies and individuals working with Japan understand and smoothly navigate Japan’s business practices. Among other projects, Maya currently co-hosts a podcast focused on the Japanese entertainment industry.
