    YCAPS is excited to announce the next event in the Community Conversations seminar series in the Yokosuka Community! This event will feature the honorable KONO Taro. The former Defense and Foreign Minister will present his personal views on defense issues that Japan faces at the present time.

    In the 21st century, the Honorable KONO Taro is remembered as one of the most effective former Japanese ministers of defense, foreign affairs, digital and Covid-19 vaccination, with a solid track record in each field. In every capacity, he made a difference in an unprecedented timely fashion. Japan may not have survived COVID pandemic without his dedicated services. In these challenging times, YCAPS is proud to host KONO Taro in person to present his views on Japan’s national security based on his hands-on experience and perspective.

    KONO Taro, 63, is an eleventh-term Member of the House of Representatives. Among positions he has held in the past are Foreign Minister; Defense Minister; Minister in charge of COVID-19 Vaccine Roll-out; Digital Minister;Minister for Cyber Security; Minister for Administrative Affairs; Chairman of the National Public Safety Commission, or Minister in charge of the National Police Organization; Minister for Regulatory Reform; Minister for Administrative Reform; Minister for Civil Service Reform; Minister for Consumer Affairs and Food Safety; Minister for Disaster Management; and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives. He is a graduate of the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. He is Chairman of the Japan Race Horse Association and was Chairman of the Shonan Bellmare Football Club, the 1995 Asia Champion Soccer Club, in the past. He is married to Kaori and has a son, Ippei.
