World War II at 80:
The Unending Quest for Redress
YCAPS Community Conversation Series -Monday, 29 September 2025, 18:30 (Sasebo)
YCAPS is delighted to announce the next event in the Community Conversations seminar series in the Sasebo community! This event will feature Professor Timothy Webster, Associate Professor of Law, Western New England University.
World War II ended 80 years ago, but questions about legal liability, compensation and apology remain bitterly contested in the present moment. This talk will examine the major lawsuits, the current South Korean decisions concerning "comfort women," and a recent decision from Japanese courts on the Battle of Okinawa. While private lawsuits cannot resolve these larger problems, they can pressure state actors, elected officials, and corporate officers to consider the issue of redress.
All are welcome and free food and refreshments will be provided.
