On 19 October 2025, YCAPS hosted a Community Conversations event in Fussa on U.S.–Japan relations under the second Trump administration. Mr. Sean Nottoli, Visiting Fellow at the Danube Institute, discussed U.S. foreign policy, security in the Indo-Pacific, and what Japan can expect from its closest security ally moving forward.

He shared insights and experiences regarding MAGA voters’ perceptions and priorities, particularly how these shape preferences for govearnment resource allocation. Looking ahead, U.S. allies will need to understand U.S. domestic priorities and, as a result, assume greater responsibility for security within the international community. Mr. Nottoli’s presentation was followed by a Q&A session and post-event conversations.
