Indo-Pacific Policy Dialogue on the 3rd anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Dr. Sergiy Korsunksy, Ukrainian ambassador to Japan, spoke on the 3rd anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine for YCAPS Indo-Pacific Policy Dialogue series, co-hosted with Temple University Japan

By William Winberg

For our February Indo-Pacific Policy Dialogue we had the honor of hosting, together with Temple University Japan, the Ukrainian ambassador to Japan for a talk on the evolving situation for Ukraine since the Russian invasion began three years ago. Ambassador Dr. Sergiy Korsunsky shared his thoughts on the prospects of peace, the potential timeline and nature of such a peace deal. Ambassador Korsunsky also expanded on what a post-conflict world would look like and the possibility of a positive trajectory for Ukraine in terms of reconstruction, development and integrating with key institutions such as the European Union and the significant role that Japan has in helping to ensure Ukraine's future prosperity. The talk also delved into current developments taking place in world politics, such as the changes to US policy following Donald Trump's inauguration last month and the implications of the German federal election which took place the day prior.

The session was held in-person at Temple University Japan and provided policymakers, scholars, and enthusiasts with an invaluable and timely opportunity to hear the Ukrainian ambassador's perspectives on the conflict, its relation to the Indo-Pacific region and developments going forward. Throughout the sessions, ambassador Korsunsky engaged with the audience by taking a range of different questions and holding a back-and-forth discussion with audience members. The session was moderated by Dr. Stephen Nagy, YCAPS Director of Policy Studies.
