2025 Dialogue on ASEAN Maritime Security

YCAPS Engagements to Enhancing Dialogue in the Indo-Pacific

The Yokosuka Council on Asia-Pacific Studies (YCAPS) was pleased to be a key player the in the 2025 Dialogue on ASEAN Maritime Security held in Manila from May 21-23. This significant event brought together influential foreign policy experts, thought leaders, government officials, and academics from all ten ASEAN member states to discuss the region's most pressing maritime challenges.

YCAPS' research fellows, Dr Chiew Ping Hoo and Dr Bich Tran presented remarks in the panels on “Getting Past Constraints – Ideas to Advance ASEAN’s Maritime Security Agenda” and “Safeguarding Subsea Cables as an Emerging Security Challenge” respectively. Other YCAPS leaders who actively participated include Dr Asyura Salleh and Eric Ang. YCAPS members engaged actively in a series of panels that explored a wide range of pressing topics. These included advancing the rule of law, fostering innovative policy solutions, and promoting regional cooperation to safeguard peace, security, and stability in the Indo-Pacific's maritime domain.

YCAPS's role as a co-sponsor of the 2025 Dialogue on ASEAN Maritime Security underscores its role in advancing informed dialogue on maritime governance within the Indo-Pacific region. By contributing to and participating in such key forums, YCAPS demonstrates its commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of the complex challenges and opportunities at sea, ultimately working towards a more stable and secure maritime environment.
