Captain Kentaro Furuya is a Japan Coast Guard Officer. He is an adjunct professor at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies and a professor at the Japan Coast Guard Academy.
James Sullivan currently serves as a Visiting Scholar at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies and as a WSD-Handa Fellow at the Pacific Forum, where his research has focused on the efficacy of grey zone tactics as catalysts for balancing coalitions (see article), a new networked definition of power (see article). He is also a Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific Equity Research at J.P. Morgan, having held Asia-based roles in equity research (Credit Suisse) and hedge fund management (Citadel, Millennium, Oaktree) since 1998, before which he held strategy consulting roles at IBM in Washington, DC and New York City. James sits on Advisory Boards for the Fuqua School of Business and Duke Corporate Education. He also serves as Deputy Director of the International Affairs Directorate for the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and holds multiple marine safety qualifications. He holds a Master’s degree in International Relations (Dean’s List Academic Achievement Award) from Harvard University's Extension School, an MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science (Summa Cum Laude) from Marist College.
