    Scott Edwards

Free and Open Indo-Pacific Research Fellow

Dr. Scott Edwards is the inaugural Free and Open Indo-Pacific Research Fellow at the Yokosuka Council on Asia Pacific Studies (YCAPS). Dr. Edwards’ research interests broadly concern how actors come together in response to novel security threats in the Indo-Pacific, with a particular focus on cooperation in Southeast Asian maritime security. He currently researches various 'blue crimes' and responses to them in the Indo-Pacific at the University of Bristol, focusing on the proliferation of institutional responses addressing maritime insecurity in the region and its implications for region building. A second interest is coordination within domestic architectures of maritime security governance, primarily in Southeast Asia but also including the UK, and how these impact international cooperation. With these interests in mind, he is increasingly interested in how external actors are impacting on maritime security cooperation in the region. He has published on these themes in Contemporary Southeast Asia and The RUSI Journal.
