    April Herlevi

    April A. Herlevi is an expert in China’s foreign economic policy, economic statecraft, and the intersection between economics and national security. Her research focuses on the increasing role of China’s commercial, economic, and military actors globally. Dr. Herlevi currently serves as a Senior Research Scientist at the Center for Naval Analyses (CNA), a nonprofit research organization based in Arlington, Virginia, and a Principal Investigator for the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR). She earned a PhD in international relations and comparative politics from the University of Virginia, a Master of Public Policy from George Mason University, and a Bachelor of Arts in political science and economics from North Carolina State University. She studied Mandarin at Tsinghua University (Beijing) and the Zhejiang University of Technology (Hangzhou). Dr. Herlevi has published on China’s special economic zones, China-Middle East relations, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), and China’s foreign investment regime.
